Saying Goodbye to the Clonker! :(

This past week Alison finally decided to get rid of her old car. Well it was past the point of being repaired anymore as the costs would have been more than it would be to buy a newer one. We all know how hard it is sometimes to part with what after a time become something of an old friend as we spend so much time behind the wheels of these things, and I’m sure a lot of stories to tell too. Well you know she was attached to hers as she took pictures of it being loaded up and hauled away! :) Can’t blame her though, I know how it feels as I drove my last two until they wouldnt move anymore!

I’m just thankful I did get one ride in it while I was there in Cyprus. Also thankful it was JUST one ride!!!  ;) LOL

  1. Aw, that’s sweet. The old car still looks good, though, but guess it really was a clonker.

I’ve got an ’85 Olds Cutlass Calais I need to get rid of. Still runs, pretty decent, but needs a lot of work. A friend of mine who deals cars now ‘n then told me it was worth $500 at the least, so I prob. should at least get it out of my driveway.

  2. You know body wise and interior the car was in great shape and a nice car really in that respect, but everything underneath was shot! Its hard to see in the first picture as i must have sent a smaller version to the post, but right behind the car on the curb there you can see a dark spot.. thats oil :( so it must have had some serious leaks as well. (There in that area the streets are narrow and its common to park half on the pavement or you will wake up int he morning with the wing mirror missing! Another post there!) It was totally suspension-less! lol a bumpy ride and the brakes… hmmmm well I’m just gald my beautiful bride isn’t having to stop the thing anymore. there was all sorts of things going wrong with the engine and it wasnt running dependably. Iknow she loved the car though and I can relate to that. I’ve had a hard time saying goodbye to all of mine that I’ve had too. I’ve forgotten the year of her car, but its a Nissan Micra or Nissan March as its called there too. I am glad I got to ride in it once as we’ve had lots of chats about it over these last two years and hearing some of the stories she told about it, rolling vegetables was one of them.. well I’ll let her tell the story sometime as shes better at telling things than I am.

  3. A guy knocked on the door the other day and asked if I wanted to sell my clunker; he offered me fifty bucks and got annoyed with me when I laughed at him. I told him the tires and rims were worth more than that.

People want something for nothing, y’know?

  4. I agree Mike , we have a saying that is ‘Owt for nowt and tuppence change ‘ ok you have to trnaslate that one I think to your language !
when the guy took my clonker away he looded a bit strangely at me when I removed every single thing from the car ,including my old vegetables that were rolling about in there from a shopping trip maybe a year ago ( wink ) lol wihtout a smile on my face I told him I needed them to cook dinner that night , think I heard him call me under his breath .Bellie Inglaiser’ ( crazy English )
