yet another odd shopping list

29 March 2009

I just can’t resist picking up these abandoned shopping lists in stores when I find them.

shopping-list-010 Alison rolls her eyes now when she sees me picking these things up and reading them. I think she’s more worried I am going to post one she’s made and put it on the site and make some kind of comment about the differences in the British and American english… I probably will ;)  lol

Anyway that’s for a later date. Today we went to WalMart to try and find a couple of things for the kitchen,  we didnt find what we were loking for but thtas another story too.  ;)

This list was just laying in the shopping cart we happened to take from the cart area so it was begging to pciked up and read anyway. Of course I obliged! It looks an interesting list really. Makes the mind wander a bit, just trying to decipher a few things that jump out. First being the $30 card-stamps… My guess is they are byuing a gift card and some postage stamps to give to someone? Maybe… Only thing that comes to my mind really. I suppose Walmamrt sells postage stamps too, I know our grocery store does. Guess I’ll never know for sure unless the author of this list sees it here and writes to me. Next item is simply “comb”. Short and sweet. Just makes me think this may be an older gentleman, not likely to be one to embellish things too much.. he simply wants a comb. Sounds like a clue that at least he has some hair left! And he needs a movie.. just 1 mind you, guess any movie will do huh? next to get from the list 2 AA batterys. well that should be batteries shouldn’t it? Not that  am the best at spelling sometimes either, just making note in case its pertinent.

heres a possible clue… Irish Spring Soap… this soap had its debut in the 70’s. Wonder if he/she has been using it all along?! They had some rather strange tv commercials I thought. Gave the impression all these folks from Ireland showered outside in a forest or something! lol well maybe he just likes feeling “fresh and clean as a whistle” (are whistles really that clean?? think about it! ;)

Ok hes got his movie and going to get his shower and comb his hair, then I guess he could be making a dip from the soup mix to have some nibbles while watching the movie maybe.

Now heres where my mind gets a bit scattered… scull cap… is this the herb or is it a misspelling of skull cap? Does Walmart even carry either of these products?? Ive not seen them if they do. maybe they mean a shower cap? the guy may be tring to protect what little bit of hair he may have left!

Ok the last line is Zac Brwon Band. I wasnt sure about this and had to look it up, its a country group. Havent heard of them really as I dont follow country too much really. seems they have a hit called Chicken Fried.  Not really something that I would be liking enough to write down on a shopping list, but thats what is great about music and the variety, something for everyone.

I really wish I could see and talk to some of these people who make these lists. That acull cap entry has me puzzled!

What happened to #1?

15 March 2009

That’s the first thing that came to mind on finding this shopping list at work one day.

I’ve accumulated quite a few of these shopping lists lately with the intentions of posting them, just havent had a lot of time to mess with the blog lately with all thats been going on, married life being verrrrrry good! :)

I’ve really not found any lists lately that were much out of the ordinary but I do find quite a few of these lists and always find them fascinating to read and oft times trying to imagine just the sort of people they are who write these things by the different characteristics of the lists
grocery list #2Today’s list is “Grocery List #2″ Again the question is what happened to number one and was it the first draft of this list or a second round of shopping for the day?!

Well it’s obviously been an “add on” list as there are three ink colours used. Other than that not much out of the ordinary except the missing first list. Looks like there is going to be a few people eating hotdogs if they need +15. And its never easy making the hotdog buns and the number of hotdogs to work out evenly anyway is it. All a plot if you ask me to increase sales on either of the products, usually the bread isnt it.  I suppose this could be a list for a quick lunch and then something for dinner afterwards. Or maybe its a cook out and they are making their own coleslaw with the cabbage, hard to tell from this list, but it could be with the final addition of “mayo” at the end, although cornbread does go very well with cabbage on its own.And the bag of potatoes could be either for fries(chips to the Brits) or for boiling with the cabbage. It really looks a hodgepodge of a list. Oatmeal is tossed in right at the middle of the list, well something should be healthy on any list, oatmeal it is then. They’ss need it for the cholesterol levels ;)

I guess any kind of beer will do as its not specified, but then again we all have our preferences and the word “beer” has only one meaning to each of us doesnt it? My beer is Miller Lite, or Coors lite if I want a bit oif change. I used to drink Stroh’s all the time in my earlier years. I had a letter once from Peter Stroh. I’m not even sure how I got it actually. It was in the days I was running this small supermarket in northeastern NC and was the gocery buyer as well as the one authorizing the beer vendors and all that and I remmebr receving this letter, signed even, thanking me for liking his beer and supporting him!  I wonder whatever happened to the letter. I generaly save everything being the packrat I am. It may be around here somewhere, but its likely lost in a jumble of old newspapers or it hit the trash heap years ago. Well nevermind, it was still nice to have received the letter. I think Stroh’s when out of business a decade or so ago. I always thought it was a nice beer. Well truth is, from the time I was 18 until I was 24 all beer was nice! LOL I rememebr during the tough times when we were broke we used to go to this old service station that always had a sale going on those small cans of Rolling Rock by the case. we’d collect enough soda bottles during the week to pick up a case or two of rolling rock and stored it in the trunk of the car! Hot Rolling Rock beer is not the tstiest stuff , but it worked ;)

I’d buy this stamp ;)
