Hurricane Earl is coming
Seriously though we are getting prepared, beginning to clear the yard and deck, storing water for the inevitable power outage that usually follows these things. I’ve learned from experience that having PLENTY of water on hand is the most important thing, After Isabel we had 8 days with no power, temps in the high 90′s and unberable high humidity. Believe me it was wonderful to be able to even wash up in a basin of water during those days, not to mention having a “flush” supply on hand! That year I did the normal “filling the bathtub” before the storm which I had never done and it was the best decision i made. But we cut it very close as the last day of no power we were down to the bottom of the tub! So this time in addition to the tub we have filled a few plastic totes with water in preparation. We’ve got about 50 gallons on hand so far and will fill some more tomorrow. I expect tomorrow will find evacuation orders issued for all the beach areas and probably Currituck as well, at least the Outer Banks portion of the county. We will monitor the track and strength and decide tomorrow if we are going to stay. As it stands now we will stay and hunker down. As is ususal today was a clear beautiful day, calm and hot. Calm befor the storm… check out our commentary if you’d like :)
Calm before the storm and More Calm before the Storm
Not sure what tomorrow and the next day will bring, but I am fully sure there will be a ton of debris on the lawn from the trees! not looking forward to that cleanup! Well thats it for now, more to follow, right now I have to go and get ready for an interview from the BBC radio show 5Live!! more on that later too!
Update – Wow! cant believe we just we interviewed by BBC Radio! 5 Live is the Radio station/programme. I posted a comment on their news story of the hurricane and I guess because we live in the area they wanted a report first hand, anyway I think it went well and they asked if they could possibly call again tomorrow when the storm is nearer. Alison is quite the reporter I think, me not so much LOL I get too nervous!

Hope you guys will be OK; keep us posted! My TornadoVideos.com site has been sending out frequent warnings about the storm.
Now off to d/l the mpg files.
Thanks Mike, hope we will be too~! lol I feel good that as long as it stays on current track we’ll be ok. You never know with these things though, they have a mind of their own sometimes. Take care and we’ll keep in touch

Hello TVN Subscriber,
A new article has been posted for you to read at TornadoVideos.Net by TVN Storm Chaser Reed Patrick Timmer:
NEAR 50 FOOT WAVES REPORTED BY BUOY IN HURRICANE EARL!
“Incredible data from the eye wall of Hurricane Earl was archived by buoy #41046 early this morning, located just offshore of the North Carolina Outer Banks! A peak wind gust of 101 mph coincident with near 50 foot waves was measured in the northwest eye wall just after 4 am …”

I referenced your first post on my Facebook wall and had some folks wishing you well. As I was checking in on the storm before I went to sleep last night, I saw where NZ had experienced a huge earthquake and then I had both you guys AND Annie to worry about. (Annie checked in, she’s OK)
Funny listening to your voices. I’d heard your voice but a couple of times, once in Groups when we uploaded a sound file snippet. You’ve got a nice, deep voice that didn’t come across in earlier recordings I heard.
I’m going to have to go research where Alison is from, but I’m sure her accent has been affected by where she’s lived in her life. I heard an inflection that sounded a bit like John Lennon’s accent and I’m sure there’s a bit of Greek in it too, for all I know.
(It used to be a “game” of mine, guessing where someone was from by their accent, but at a local conv. store the other day, I guessed “Indian” when the guy was a Pakistani. Those two peoples really hate ea. other, y’know? I always knew there was contention, but the guy let me know I was wrong, way wrong! -grin-
The last time elle was over, she called after she got home and said her two kids mentioned her own accent had some Texan in it. She said she told them she didn’t think so, then her daughter told her:
“Mum, you just asked us ‘Whut ya’ll fixin’ ta do?’
thanks Mike, Yeah we’re fine, by the time it got here it had weakened considerably and had made the turn to the northeast. Still got tropical storm force winds and rains and such. Had a big mess to clean up but nothing as serious as it could have been which is a blessing. Lost power for a bit still but it was back on by the time we got home from work. I guess we full of adrenaline getting prepared and it was sort of anticlimatic when it got here but thats human nature isnt it.
Yes I’m sure Alison has picked up quite a few variations in her accent, but mind you she can still drop back to her original one when she speaks with those from her area! Funny sometimes to listen to her as she’s throwing in greek, english and good ol’ southern american all at once!
We had to go straight in to work the next morning as soon as we could get out safley and have been working the last two days, finally have a day off now and get things straightened up. We did clean the yard and debris the other day , just to move all the other stuff we had stored and get it back in place, or maybe we’ll just head to the beach today and relax by the ocean while its still warm enough to do so! lolsounds better to me ;)
take care and thanks my friend
