Hurricane Earl Update, state of emergency
This morning our county decalred a state of emergency when it began to issue evacuation orders for visitors in the outer banks part of the county.
This state of emergency also suspends the sale of alcohol in the county, much to the dismay of many! lol well lucky we made our purchases yesterday!!
I suppose its a good thing they do this, I’m sure alcohol causes some stupid decisions/actions when it comes to hurricanes, but I’m sure many already have stocked up as we did!
Will have more pics and things on in a bit as we have a few more preparations to do before the weather gets bad, and Alison once again got an interview with BBC newcastle radio this morning! She’s a star now! They prerecorded an interview which will be braodcast in the morning on BBC Newcastle radio tomorrow morning about 7:20 am UK time. Heres the link to the program for anyone interested to hear it!
When I worked at a local pkg. store, I had someone come through the drive-up when a tornado was just a few blocks away! I asked them “Don’t you see that huge *&^%$^&**# tornado?” “Yeah, hurry up and give me my whiskey.”
I love brandy, esp. cognac. It raises my sugar up so much, though. -sigh- E&J has “upped” its brand name and has improved the quality since I first tried it 25 yrs. ago. I remember buying a half-pint for something like .89 cents.
I’d hate to be w/out cigs, too. If I ran out during the storm, I might be one of those riff-raffs looting a store. You could pick me out on TV, I’d be the one standing on top of a mound of rain-soaked cig. cartons, trying to find my brand.
Used to get bored at that store during slow times and would read all the liquor trade mags cover-to-cover. There was an article about gin, how it’s made, etc. It’s one of the “better” liquors for you, along w/ vodka, because they have so few congeners/toxins. The British started drinking gin and tonics during their tropics colonies days, one because the sharp “tang” of gin is much better suited to a hot climate than is more sugary booze, plus the quinine in tonic served as a malaria preventive.
I know one liquor I wouldn’t stock up on f/ a storm: tequila…esp. if there was a woman in the house. I’d rather face the storm outside than the one that would be building INSIDE, fueled by margaritas and a growing resentment against all things male.
LOL at the tequila remark!
Well of course we want everyone to know we took this thing seriously and booze wasnt the top of the supply list, just menat it to be a bit funny. But yes the truth is we did make sure we had a supply of these essentials on hand! ;)
